Following C.Z. Guest as the garden editor of
Hamptons magazine, noted landscape architect Jack deLashmet’s irreverent column “Diary of a Mad Gardener” remains the basis for his sought-after national lecture series. His recent book,
Hamptons Gardens, is an invitation into the private world that lies behind privet hedges and wrought iron gates in one of the world’s exclusive enclaves. In collaboration with photographers Mary Ellen Bartley and Doug Young, deLashmet will take us into the Hamptons’ most beautiful gardens in this visually stunning book. From the sustainable and native to the over-the-top and avant-garde, the selection of gardens expresses the range of styles for which the East End is known. New minimalist approaches to landscaping in Amagansett are contrasted by the classic, lush greenery that surrounds the Grey Gardens estate, as the author explores today’s most important cultivation trends.
His firm, deLashmet & Associates, has completed notable landscape projects and historic garden restorations throughout the United States and Europe. His work has been seen in
Town & Country,
Elle Décor,
House & Garden,
Architectural Digest, and
Hamptons Cottages & Gardens, among others. A frequent collaborator with architects and fellow landscape designers, he is a member of the American Society of Landscape Architects. He lives and works in East Hampton.
*Individuals who contribute at this level are eligible to win a special gift from Asprey.
