With thousands of volumes on all aspects of gardens and gardening, The HSNY Library informs and inspires gardeners, students, and casual browsers along with professional artists, designers, horticulturists, and writers.

Throughout the year the Library also hosts public programs that enlighten and delight including informal presentations by garden writers, lectures and panel discussions. Check the Events Calendar for upcoming programs.

Library Hours

Open to the public Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm; HSNY Members enjoy borrowing privileges.

The General Collection provides a broad range of reading materials for gardeners, career changers and others curious about plants and gardens.

The Botanical Illustration Collection, conveniently housed in the conference room for browsing, offers finely illustrated historical and contemporary works on wild and cultivated plants for artists, designers and anyone who delights in beautiful books.

The American Landscape History Collection supports research on the development of a uniquely American approach to garden and landscape design through exceptional texts and periodicals produced during a particularly creative period, 1890–1940.

History of American Horticulture Collection supports research on the many practical books and magazines available to gardeners from the 1850s to the 1950s.

The Archives: The HSNY Library preserves and provides access to HSNY’s historical records that document its organizational activities, member events and public programs.
