Outreach
HSNY’s outreach programs reach some of New York’s most under-served communities, including families and at-risk youth, the constituents of social service organizations, and men and women who are and were incarcerated.
Our programs provide services to people in their own neighborhoods to help them realize the full green potential of the streets and spaces they live in every day.
Apple Seed
Apple Seed is our in-school and after-school science and environmental enrichment education
program, providing innovative curriculum and hands-on projects for public school children.
AppleSeed is supported by Read & Seed, our summer literacy and science
program with an environmental theme offered at our GreenBranches library gardens.
GreenBranches
GreenBranches is our program that creates beautiful and safe gardens at public library
branches throughout the City, transforming neglected spaces into centers of community life
and vibrant living classrooms, helping to reinvigorate the libraries as hubs of community
life.
GreenHouse
GreenHouse is our “jail-to-street” program on Rikers Island that provides men and women
who are incarcerated with vocational training in horticulture, horticultural therapy, remedial
education, skill development and follow-up care.
GreenTeam
GreenTeam is our internship program for newly-released men and women who graduated
from the GreenHouse, and at-risk young people. We provide vocational training
in horticulture, transitional work, job search skills, placement and aftercare
services, through professional landscaping projects for private clients and partner
organizations.
