Links we like: The Library The HSNY library, conveniently located in the heart of the fashion district, is a unique resource for anyone with an interest in plants and gardens. The Library is open to the public on a reference basis; borrowing privileges are available with full membership in the Society. The collection features current and historic material on all aspects of gardening including garden and landscape design and the history of American horticulture. Access to holdings is available through the online catalog. In addition to nearly 12,000 books and bound periodicals, the Library maintains a selection of current periodicals and nursery catalogs for browsing in its Reading Room.
Our users include gardeners and plant enthusiasts; professional artists, garden designers, horticulturists and writers; and the media. More than 3,000 requests are received annually from the general public, members, students, other libraries, and staff.
Throughout the year the library hosts informal author talks and in the spring library supporters gather for a special benefit program.
Special Topics to Explore: Gardening in the City, Wild Flowers, Botanical Illustration, Indoor Gardens, Landscape Design, Gardening with Children, Natural Gardening, Garden Literature Classics, Floral Design, Horticultural Therapy, and Plant Lore.
Visit the library Monday-Friday 10:00am to 6:00pm. To contact Librarian Katherine Powis for reference assistance call 212-757-0915 x109 or email kpowis@hsny.org. |
