Garden Tours:

As New Yorkers, what is more fun than discovering gorgeous green spaces in our own neighborhoods? We are planning new and thought-provoking garden tours for the upcoming season. From private gardens to public spaces, in and out of the city, these tours are a chance for you to view and discuss with trained horticulturists elements of design, botany, and history as they relate to horticulture.

Classes to begin spring 2008:

As we settle in to our new office, library, and meeting space at 148 W. 37th Street, we are making plans to re-start our education programs. Subjects being considered include Floral Design, Botanical Art and Illustration, Rooftop Gardening, Greenroofs, Indoor Plant Care, Orchids, and Trees and Arboriculture. Feel free to call and suggest topics you would enjoy, or if you are an educator call and let us know if there are classes you might be interested in teaching.

About our Director of Horticulture:

Originally from the eastern end of Long Island, Alex Feleppa's career in horticulture began at Marder's Nursery, in Bridgehampton, NY. In 2003, Alex moved to New York City and was hired by the Horticultural Society of New York to run the Garden Shop at the former HSNY location on 58th Street.

Interested in more formal horticultural knowledge and training, Alex enrolled in the School of Professional Horticulture at the New York Botanical Garden. In March of 2007, he graduated at the top of his class, having received both the Arlow B. Stout Award for Academic Achievement and the Skills Achievement Award.

Alex has rejoined the HSNY as the Director of Horticulture, working hard to further improve the lives of New Yorkers through horticulture.
