Looking for affordable landscaping or gardening?
As part of our aftercare services for graduates of GreenHouse, HSNY established GreenTeam, a transitional horticultural and vocational internship program. The interns engage in hands-on educational workshops at the library gardens installed through our GreenBranches program, and ensure the gardens are high-quality and well-kept resources for the community residents to utilize. Interns practice and build on their horticulture and job skills while they conduct an organized search for full-time careers in their chosen field. In 2002, recognizing the high demand for horticultural services by both public institutions and private individuals, HSNY realized that the motivated and skilled graduates could do these jobs, thus creating a new aspect of GreenTeam, Fee for Service projects. These interns work on contracts that HSNY bids on competitively, while pursuing full-time jobs. GreenTeam has created a lovely patio garden for the Bronx Defenders, installed private rooftop and backyard gardens, designed and planted a project at a ballpark in Staten Island, secured a maintenance contract for a luxury residential building on the Upper East Side, and worked with community groups at housing projects through New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) to install vegetable and flower gardens and provide workshops for seniors and kids. The interns can also build planter boxes and benches to your specifications.
