OFF-SITE PROJECTS
The UBS Art Gallery has invited HSNY Curator Jodie Vicenta Jacobson to create an exhibition in their space at 1285 Avenue of the Americas (at 52nd Street) opening August 7th and on view through October 31, 2008. IMPLANT will riff on ideas presented by Michael Pollan in his book, The Botany of Desire. In conjunction with this exhibition, Mr. Pollan will give a talk at The Horticultural Society of New York. Artists under consideration for the exhibition include: Emmet Gowin, Francesca Woodman, Julia Margaret Cameron, Ann Craven, Jane Freilicher, Karen Kilimnik, Gabriel Orozco, Dennis Oppenheim, William Eggleston, Roe Ethridge, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Roman Signer, and Ellsworth Kelly along with additional known and emerging artists.
The Gallery at The Horticultural Society of New York is working with artist Peter Coffin and the Andrew Kreps Gallery to produce Plant Book, a conceptual illustrated book containing reproductions of contemporary photography, drawing, painting, and sculpture that relate to the life of plants. The book is expected for Spring 2009, and will be accompanied by concurrent exhibitions at Andrew Kreps Gallery and The Gallery at The Horticultural Society of New York, Summer 2009.

EXHIBITIONS AT HSNY
As a cultural institution, HSNY encourages a public appreciation and understanding of fine art, garden design, and landscape design in the realm of horticulture. Our Exhibitions feature the works of great and rising living artists who are inspired by botanics, landscape, and horticulture. This is a unique exhibitions program dedicated to showing painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, and other works specifically created around the ideas and tenets of horticulture.
The gallery is open free of charge to the general public and without cost to the artists. HSNY presents six to eight exhibits annually, including the annual juried show for the American Society of Botanical Artists. In addition, children in our Apple Seed classes have exhibited their artwork at the Gallery. The students visit the GreenBranches library gardens on field trips and paint, draw, photograph, or sculpt them during the different seasons. HSNY also offers art classes to students in our GreenHouse program, and hopes to exhibit their work in our Gallery soon.
