Celebrate the inaugural NYC Wildflower Week by joining HSNY for an insightful panel discussion. Hear Edward Toth from the Greenbelt Native Plant Center discuss "Local Genotypes in Fragmented Landscapes", Dr. Richard Lynch from the Sweetbay Magnolia Conservancy cover "Rare Plants of NYC", and Dr. Paul Mankiewicz from Gaia Institute address "Conserving the Natural Heritage of the Five Boroughs."

HSNY Trolley Tour: Community Gardens of the Manhattan Land Trust
Hop aboard a classic trolley, provided by the NYC Dept. of Parks and Recreation, and join Alex Feleppa, HSNY Director of Horticulture, and Erica Packard of the Manhattan Land Trust for a tour of four community gardens in Harlem. Learn how both organizations have worked together to improve the quality of life for local neighborhoods through horticulture, outreach, and education.

HSNY in the Gardens: Cleanup and Dividing Workshop at La Perla Community Garden
Thanks to the partnership between HSNY and the Manhattan Land Trust, HSNY members will join the gardeners of La Perla Community Garden and Alex Feleppa of HSNY for an educational morning and early afternoon of spring maintenance including dividing and transplanting of perennials. HSNY members are encouraged to pitch in and learn proper horticultural techniques. Feel free to bring your pruners and work gloves if you have them.
Please Note: Meet at La Perla Garden, W. 105th Street, jest east of Columbus Avenue.

Vermicomposting: Letting Worms Do the Work, A Demonstration by Dennis Burkhardt
When Dennis Burkhardt lost his garden nine years ago, he turned his hand to composting with worms to stay in touch with nature. If you have already heard of vermicomposting but could not imagine how anyone could ever think of bringing worms into the house, Dennis will demonstrate how easy it is to create your own "black gold" in minimal space with no mess.

Flower District Tour and Container Gardening Demonstration
In conjunction with the New York Studio and Floral Arts (www.nyfloralstudio.com), Alex Feleppa will begin this program with a 2 hour tour of the Flower District. Following a break for lunch and shopping, Alex will rpesent and demonstrate do-it-yourself container gardening techniques that you can apply to your own home or garden.

Introduction to Green Walls: A Presentation by G-Sky
You have heard about the green roof movement, but have you heard about green walls? G-Sky's Living Wall product is a Japanese-developed modular system that has been installed worldwide for nearly 10 years. On June 19th, join representatives from G-Sky's New York office and Corporate office in Vancouver - including the company’s president, Chad Sichello - for an informative presentation on green walls. Learn about the components involved, the benefits, and how easy it is to incorporate their system into your own work. A living wall will be on display, and there will be an interactive presentation with plenty of time for questions.
