Children's Birthdays and Parties at HSNY

Let The Horticultural Society of New York produce an exciting, new twist to your birthday merriment. Choose from these beloved favorites or let us work our magic to meet your child’s current natural fascination:

• Ladybug Picnic
  Lure real, live ladybugs with the olfactory delights of plump aphids. Then take a magnifying glass to get a close and VERY personal view of the food chain in action.


• Wild Berry Love
  Join Ramona Raspberry and Sigmund Service berry for a wild ride into the center of a wild berry world. Use fresh berry skins to fashion your own personal plaque and plant seeds to take home. Bushels full of fun berry facts.


• Moving and Shaking
  On our insect investigation journey you’ll encounter fire ants, red wiggler worms and chirping crickets. Charm a worm with vibrations, search for cocoons and study worm behavior without gloves! Don’t miss out on our version of critter’s musical chairs!


• The Kitchen Club
  Got a budding chef? Bring a hearty appetite to harness the power of plant curiosity in the kitchen. We will share two of our favorite kid tested and approved culinary joys.


• Spying City Birds
  Play bird bingo, construct a pinecone bird feeders and identifying common city birds. Learn to attract birds anywhere, anytime. Make your own bird caller with a beautiful piece of renewable bamboo.


• Herbal Tea Party
  Create your very own customized tea. Then name and enjoy it with scones and cucumber sandwiches with all your favorite friends. Suits and skirts appreciated.


• For the Love of Carnivores
  Come tour our little shop of horrors! We’ll trudge through steamy peat pits to feed a Venus Fly trap and pet a sundew. All participants make a voracious plant puppet for an impromptu show!


• Flower Power
  Got a flower obsession? Dive into a parrot tulip, protea, or poppy with our 4-inch magnifier. See in 2x power then use our colorful watercolors and some soothing classical music to create your own unique masterpiece.

Each 2 hour party includes a hands-on ecology workshop, reading of a related story book and an planting activity. All activities are led by our educators and teaching interns. We will serve 10 children and 10 adults, with only $10 for each additional party attendee. Maximum 40 people. Space is limited so we recommend you reserve in advance.
